Tunnel effect for semiclassical random walks

چکیده
We study a semiclassical random walk with respect to a probability measure with a finite number n0 of wells. We show that the associated operator has exactly n0 exponentially close to 1 eigenvalues (in the semiclassical sense), and that the other are O(h) away from 1. We also give an asymptotic of these small eigenvalues. The key ingredient in our approach is a general factorization result of pseudodifferential operators, which allows us to use recent results on the Witten Laplacian.

Diffusive-ballistic crossover in 1D quantum walks.
We show that particle transport, as characterized by the equilibrium mean square displacement, in a uniform, quantum multibaker map, is generically ballistic in the long time limit, for any fixed value of Planck's constant. However, for fixed times, the semiclassical limit leads to diffusion. Random matrix theory provides explicit analytical predictions for the mean square displacement of a par...

Many approaches to a semiclassical description of gravity lead to an integer black hole entropy. In four dimensions this implies that the Schwarzschild radius obeys a formula which describes the distance covered by a Brownian random walk. For the higher-dimensional Schwarzschild-Tangherlini black hole, its radius relates similarly to a fractional Brownian walk. We propose a possible microscopic...
متن کاملSemiclassical approach to the ac conductance of chaotic cavities
We address frequency-dependent quantum transport through mesoscopic conductors in the semiclassical limit. By generalizing the trajectory-based semiclassical theory of dc quantum transport to the ac case, we derive the average screened conductance as well as ac weak-localization corrections for chaotic conductors. Thereby we confirm respective random matrix results and generalize them by accoun...
متن کاملTransport moments and Andreev billiards with tunnel barriers
Open chaotic systems are expected to possess universal transport statistics and recently there have been many advances in understanding and obtaining expressions for their transport moments. However when tunnel barriers are added, which represents the situation in more general experimental physical systems much less is known about the behaviour of the moments. By incorporating tunnel barriers i...
